A letter a day

The alphabet is a marathon of twenty-six small sprints. A letter a day with five traced rows beats a weekend of the whole alphabet, and pairing each letter with a hunt for it around the house ("find three things that start with B") attaches sound to shape, which is the actual goal.

A sensible order

Nobody has to start at A. Many teachers begin with the letters of the child's name (instant motivation), then straight-line letters (L, T, E, F, H, I), then curves (C, O, S), saving the diagonal troublemakers (K, R, X, Z) for last.
